In a normal controller the main tasks for signal handling and signal processing arise in the setpoint branch (e.g. time profiles, ramps etc.). Such tasks can be resolved all the better digitally, the higher the effort for signal processing. This statement also applies if the control circuit is analogue, above all if a D/A converter is used (pre-loop processing).
