Power losses

Difference between the power supplied and the power delivered (hydraulic efficiency). Much of what is lost can be attributed to:

  • volumetric losses: these are caused by incomplete filling of the pump, internal and external leakage losses and compression losses,
  • losses resulting from the flow of the fluid (losses due to changes in cross section or direction, churning losses, friction losses),
  • mechanical losses produced by mechanical friction.
