Details on the technology - The battery packs as powerful energy storage devices

IEP_Portfolio_2_D6130.cmyk.600x600-tiny

The battery packs are designed for use in off-high machines or as traction batteries. They offer a very high energy density compared to the market, which makes them a problem solver in space-critical electrification projects. Inside, the individual battery cells are interconnected to form a battery module. An intelligent battery management system (BMS) is integrated, which protects and monitors the battery and communicates with the higher-level controller or the charger. It can control an integrated heater or communicate status-dependent power recommendations to the vehicle. As is usual in mobile machinery, of course, via CAN bus. HAWE Mattro's battery packs are divided into Intelligent Energy Packs (IEP) and Modular Energy Packs (MEP).

Intelligent Energy Pack (IEP)

IEP (Intelligent Energy Pack) battery packs from HAWE Mattro are ready-to-use units featuring integrated battery management, pre-charging, cut-off, and thermal management systems. Designed for single or parallel operation in mobile machines, they come in two chemistries: nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) and lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP).

NMC-based IEPs offer high energy density (up to 300Wh/l or 180Wh/kg) with a service life of about 2000 discharge cycles. They come in aluminum housings, available in two lengths, with various connection options and an IP65 protection rating, making them suitable for many applications.

LFP-based IEPs, with a slightly lower energy density (200Wh/l or 120Wh/kg) but longer service life (approx. 4000 discharge cycles), are more cost-effective and ideal for applications requiring high safety, such as mining, thanks to their IP67 protection rating.

Modular Energy Pack (MEP)

The MEP is a freely configurable, versatile solution that enables both series and parallel connections. This flexibility allows the power and voltage to be adapted to different requirements. The housing is designed so that it can be easily combined and flexibly mounted. The current MEP system is based on LFP technology. The MEP is available in many voltages (100V - 800V) and various capacities (up to 3 parallel branches, max. 945 Ah).

Condition monitoring already integrated

The integrated battery management system (BMS) permanently monitors the condition of the battery. This protects the battery from over or deep discharge, over/under temperature and excessive currents. It performs balancing and optimizes the service life of the battery. The safety function integrated in the battery replaces the time-consuming installation and testing of external safety components such as high-performance relays or pre-charging units. Chargers for the energy storage system are available as an option.
