Bent axis machine

Axial piston machine (Axial piston pump or Hydraulic motor), in which the cylinder block is turned by a drive flange connected to the drive shaft via the piston rods. The cylinder block is guided using a guide shaft in the middle of the drive flange. The stroke movement is achieved by the inclined position of the cylinder block axis (up to 40° is possible, but up to 25° is normal).

The most important properties of the bent axis machine are as follows:

  • good turning properties, self-priming, not very sensitive to dirt, such as swash plate pumps, normally less noisy;
  • the lifetime depends on the average pressure and the actuated time, but not on the pivoting angle, meaning that large pivoting angles are possible;
  • they can withstand changing loads well;
  • large units are possible;
  • they are primarily used in open circuits.
