Thin foil strain gauge

strain gaugemade of an approx. 5 μm thick metallic measuring grid (as a rule constantan or Modco) cut in a zig-zag pattern that is sensitive to strain in the longitudinal direction. Thin foil strain gauges manufactured by etching from film are used today instead of metal wire strain gauges.

Thin foil strain gauges can be used as individual modules (see strain gauge), however they can also be combined with calibration and compensation elements (Figure F 32).
