The HAWE Houston team; Cynthia Villanueva, Kecia Ross, Lori Phillips, Carolina Sanchez, Jennifer Bonilla, and Juli Grettenburger gave up some free time and walked a distance of 4.5 miles starting on Calhoun Road in downtown Houston. The Houston team raised a total of $249.
The HAWE Charlotte team; Aaron, Kellie and Elijah Van Gilder, Kathy and Paul Sandel, Jason and Carmen McCorkle and Noelle Tolar braved the heat and gathered in Romare Bearden Park to walk the difficult 3.5 miles through downtown Charlotte. The Charlotte team raised a total of $482.
Three hours later on that same day, the HAWE Portland team; Tracy Davidson and Mike Hodge started their walk of 6.2 miles on Center Court Street in Portland. The Portland team raised a total of $192.
In total, HAWE Cares was able to raise a total of $923. All proceeds raised went to the March of Dimes whose mission is to improve the health of babies by prevention birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Premature birth affects about 380,000 babies in the United States. The funds raised support research and programs that help mothers have full-term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives.
