HAWE North America’s Customer Service Manager Rides to fight Kids’ Cancer

Dani Ferguson, HAWE North America’s Customer Service Manager, has pledged to participate in the 35+ Mile Great Cycle Challenge during the month of September.

She has a goal of raising $2,000.  Dani is paying tribute to a dear friend of her and her husband, Mark, 10-year-old Mycah Moody who has been battling brain cancer since she was 8 years old.

Mycah’s Story:

Here’s a glimpse of Mycah’s journey. Diagnosed Christmas Eve 2018 with a brain stem tumor and hydrocephalus. She almost lost her battle had she not been taken to the ER that night. She was listless, could hardly talk, and was eating poorly because the tumor was affecting the nerves that control the speech and swallowing. The doctor decided that a craniotomy was needed to access the tumor. This procedure involves removing the back lower portion of Mycah’s skull. The surgery was 7 hours long, they were able to get 98% of the tumor out.  Last November, the tumor showed growth and by February 2021, a decision was made to do treatment. She had her port placed and has had 11 chemo treatments and over ½ a dozen Neupogen shots. In the past year and a half, she has had over 10+ MRI’s. Mycah’s mom had to quit her job to be able to stay home with Mycah. Her and her family went from a two-parent income to a one parent income. Then, more tragedy hit in August 2021 – Mycah’s dad, the only income provider, passed away from COVID-19 on 8/20/2021.

There needs to be a cure. Pediatric brain tumors are the leading cause of cancer-related death among children and adolescents under the age of 19. Mycah’s brain tumor is called a Juvenile Pilocytic Astrocytoma. Her tumor is non-malignant. #mycahstrong

Message from Dani:

During the month of September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So, I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.
