Surface filter

Filter which only separates off impurities at the surface of the filter element.

Surface filters are designed with pores (gap) of a similar size, which means they can retain certain sizes of particle almost completely. However, they only have a small dirt holding capacity, which significantly reduces their service life compared with volume (bulk) filters.

Surface filters are manufactured using thin fabric, mainly consisting of metal threads (screen filter). Other surface filters are known as gap filters.
