Single acting cylinder

Cylinder in which the fluid pressure for the forward stroke only acts in one and the same direction (ISO 1219-1). The piston can be returned by a spring, the inherent weight of the piston or external force. In principle, single-acting cylinders have only one effective piston area.

Single acting cylinders are mostly equipped with plunger pistons. However they can also be formed by the single sided application of pressure to a differential piston.
