Load-holding valve

In accordance with ISO 1219-1 load-holding valves are classed in the group of pressure control valves.

They prevent double-acting consumers (such as hydraulic cylinders and hydraulic motors) that have a pulling or pushing load from moving or accelerating uncontrollably or faster than the speed prescribed by the incoming flow when moving in the load direction. This prevents the oil column from collapsing and potentially falling.
