Processing of digital signals (instead of analogue signals). Digital signal processing has experienced rapid growth due to the development of the microprocessor as a signal processing module.
Digital signal processing reduces the error rate and permits a higher resolution and faster operation with greater processing accuracy and higher immunity to interference, however also with more effort than analogue signal processing. At the same time are reduced and the drift problems that occur in analogue systems are prevented.
On the usage of digital signal processing in controllers the controller parameters can be adjusted to changing operating parameters (e.g. adaptive controllers). Finally, digital signal transmission also over larger distances is easier than with analogue signals.
