Rotary piston
mostly a rectangular cross-section that is fastened to the shaft and to which a flow of hydraulic fluid is applied.
Volumetric losses
or velocity. Compression losses are caused by the compressibility of the hydraulic fluid. In the case of hydraulic fluids, the volumetric losses are described by the volumetric efficiency (cf. power losses [...] components by mating surfaces and rods. There are still leakage paths, through which the pressure fluid can flow. The external leaked oil flow Q Le for pumps and motors flows out of the pressurised chambers
Feed height
Fluid level height above an inlet or outlet opening. In the case of a negative inlet height, the suction pressure for pumps is lower than the ambient pressure (Figure Z 8).
Piston pump
Hydraulic pump in which the pressure fluid is displaced by one or more pistons . Pistons may be arranged in a row or aligned radially or axially in relation to the drive shaft.
Wetting ability
Ability of a hydraulic fluid to cover the surface over which it is distributed to a greater or lesser degree. Hydraulic fluids with good wetting ability adhere better to the surface. As a consequence the
Pressure surge
Shock in the pressure fluid due to the release of kinetic energy if the flow rate suddenly stops (e.g. due to closing a valve or a piston moving against a stop). The pressure wave produced in this manner [...] correspondingly if the kinetic energy of the weight must also be retarded as well as the column of fluid.
Compressibility
Characteristic whereby every genuine fluid reduces in volume under pressure. The compressibility associated with mineral oil is also dependent on the temperature and the kind of change of state involved
Gas filling pressure
Gas pressure that is applied to a fluid vessel with or without separator. On hydraulic accumulators the gas filling pressure corresponds to the precharge pressure. Example: hydropneumatic accumulator
Pressure amplifier
ratio of the pressure amplifier. It is possible to operate with the same pressure fluid and also with different pressure fluids (e.g. compressed air/ oil) in the two pressure systems.
Oil sampling
The oil samples needed to check the degree of contamination of hydraulic fluids must be taken in compliance with highly specific guidelines or the measurement results will not be representative for the [...] comparison with others. Apart from absolute cleanliness for all devices coming into contact with the fluid to be sampled, these guidelines also stipulate the correct place for oil sampling, i.e. somewhere
