Flow rate

Volume of fluid which flows through a cross-section in one time unit. In hydraulics the flow rate is generally stated in litres per minute (lpm).

For example, filling a 10 litre water bucket at the tap takes around a minute. The flow rate in the tap is therefore 10 lpm.

The flow rate Q of a pump is calculated from the volume per revolution Vg, the rotary speed of the pump n and the volumetric efficiency factor ηv of the pump.
