Transmission ratio

Describes the factor by which, in the case of a Pressure amplifier the high-pressure on the small area A 2 is greater than the low pressure on the larger area A 1. The transmission ratio is equal to the surface ratio α:

In the same way, the pressure on the ring side of a differential cylinder is transmitted if the outlet on that side is closed and the piston side is pressurised. Here, the transmission ratio is equal to the ratio of piston areas.
